August 10, live event: From 0 to Components Library with Web Components and Storybook

A Short Q&A With Gil Fink, a Web Development Expert

This week, we spoke with Gil Fink, a web development expert and the host of the “From 0 to Components Library with Web Components and Storybook” workshop to be held on August 10. Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect.

You have a live event on Web Components and Storybook coming up, so we would like to talk a little bit about your experience and viewpoints regarding these technologies and tools. But first, let’s start with a rather general question. How has web development changed in the past few years?

Web development has changed dramatically over the last decade. We progressed from toolkit libraries like jQuery to frameworks like AngularJS and Backbone, and now we build apps using a components-driven architecture with React, Vue, or Angular. Web developers now have a plethora of tools at their disposal, and there are JavaScript APIs that allow them to perform previously impossible operations.

The title of your live event is “From 0 to Components Library with Web Components and Storybook.” Could you tell our audience a bit more about what you will be talking about?

During the live event, I'll talk about design systems and how they relate to component libraries, and then we'll build one using Stencil (Web Components compiler) and Storybook. The attendees will also participate in a brief exercise to put what they have learned into practice.

Storybook is the de-facto standard tool these days.

Who is this live event intended for?

The event is intended for web developers who want to fully understand design systems and how to build a component library with modern tools such as Stencil and Storybook.

In your opinion, what are the most appealing features of Storybook and what problems does it solve?

Storybook is a recommended tool that I have successfully used in numerous projects. Overall, it can be described as a lab environment for components. I'll save any additional information for the live session — there are many things to look forward to!

Are there any alternatives to Storybook that you find interesting?

Storybook, like any JavaScript tool, has alternatives. You can use Ladle or Cosmos, but Storybook is the de-facto standard tool these days.

Is there anything else that is going on in web development that you believe we should be paying more attention to?

I'd say resumability and Qwik framework are two things to keep an eye on.

Gil Fink is the CEO of sparXys and a web development expert with extensive experience managing developer teams and projects. He will share his knowledge on how to build a components library, in a live event on August 10. Make sure to reserve your ticket on time!
