Yahoo Finance Live check out how much lead actors Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are being paid for their roles in the upcoming Barbie movie.

Video Transcript

RACHELLE AKUFFO: And Seana, you mentioned Mattel there. And Margot Robbie is earning the big bucks for her upcoming role as Mattel's Barbie. Now she's set to earn $12.5 million for the role. And her co-star, Ryan Gosling, is being paid the same amount. Obviously, something that you love to see. You love to see equity when it comes to pay. But I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean, she is playing Barbie. You would think she would get a little bit more, but I mean, I don't know. What do you think, Dave?

DAVE BRIGGS: Well, I was outvoted. I said she was the biggest star in the movie in the room, and everyone said I am wrong on that account, that he is, in fact, the bigger star. I think it is nice to see some equal pay, some parity. And I think we're going to see a lot more of that in the years moving forward. I found out there's finally some revelation of the plot. Reading Deadline, it's about Barbie getting kicked out of Barbie Land because she's not perfect enough.

SEANA SMITH: Oh.

DAVE BRIGGS: She goes on an adventure to save Barbie Land, only to realize that the key to happiness is to believe in one's self.

SEANA SMITH: Interesting.

DAVE BRIGGS: Uh, yeah, it doesn't sound like-- it doesn't like what I'm going to running to see.

SEANA SMITH: You want to believe in yourself. Yeah, exactly. I don't know if I'm exactly going to be running to see the movie. But bringing it back to pay, I think it's good news here. We've been talking about the disparity between male and females, especially when they are co-stars. Two huge names-- we can debate which one is the bigger star here in this film. But it's nice to see that they're both being paid equal amounts.

DAVE BRIGGS: It is, indeed. We can agree on that. We'll all go see it.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: I will just say, if you compare it to the top paid man, you saw that Tom Cruise reportedly got $100 million for "Top Gun, Maverick." But that was because he was very clever about his profit share contract. So people really have to take all that into account when they're looking at some of these amounts.

DAVE BRIGGS: It's Tom Cruise's world. We're all just living in it.
