Hi everyone!

I’m On, co-founder of Wilco, together with @shemag8 and @aloncarmel. We’re very excited to share with you what the Wilco team is working on.

Think about how you acquired your dev skills. Was it by making costly mistakes? By observing how someone else works? By being thrown in at the deep end of a project? That’s the cost of upskilling — it only comes from being confronted with challenges and overcoming them. Your skills are arguably more important than the languages you know, but they’re also far more difficult to learn and too often tied to your job.

It’s time to change all that; add a way to upskill outside of work, accelerate it, make it more structured. That’s why we use the flight simulator metaphor—it’s a risk-free way to work on your skills in a realistic environment, at your own pace, with the level of guidance you need.

An environment like that doesn’t teach you how to code but does make you a better coder - no matter how much experience you already have. Want to practice deploying a backend app? You don’t have to wait until a project comes along that requires it. Can’t wait until the next bug in production to feel the rush of eliminating it ASAP? That’s a bit weird, but we get it!

On Wilco, you complete quests using real-life tech stacks. We even have our own messaging service, Snack, to talk with the co-workers we simulate for you. That last part might sound a bit corny, but think about it for a second: engineering assignments are usually delivered by people who use human descriptions, not formulaic text prompts. Translating them into tasks is a skill.
