Sony has a well-deserved reputation for delivering quality goods in everything they do across screens, sound and optics. So the news that three new portable Bluetooth speakers have been added to its range, is good news for buyers. Whether you’re looking for light and ultra portable, or a more sound focussed device, you’re covered.

The SRS-XG300 is the big daddy of the range, retailing at $479.00 AUD which is far from a cheap option. As you would reasonably expect of Sony however, for that big price you get a lot of bang for your buck. The feature set really hits the mark too, offering:

  • IP67 rating to protect your investment
  • 25 hours of battery life with quick charge capability
  • 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz frequency response
  • 20mm tweeter and a 61mm x 68mm woofer
  • 318mm x 138mm x 136mm and weighs approximately 3kg

An impressive device from an audio perspective, but not something that would easily drop in a bag for daily carry.

Next in the queue is the SRS-XE300, at a retail price of AU$319.00 it’s far more affordable and portable device. Being not just IP67 waterproof, but also salt water resistant makes this a take it anywhere option.

Coupled with the 24 hours of battery life, great sound response at 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz and 1.3kg weight you’re in for a party. The physically smaller size makes it more conducive to being carried in your car or potentially in your bag, just in case you need it.

Finally, we have the $249.00 SRS-XE200 which still packs a punch but not quite as hurtful to your wallet. Carrying the same frequency response and IP67 rating as the higher models, the sound and longevity of your investment will both be excellent.

While the battery life is a significant step down at 16 hours, it will still offer a full day of playback. When you then consider the smaller size at 90 x 208 x 94mm and 800 gram weight, Sony may well have made a speaker viable for everyday carry.

All three models support calls with echo cancellation and, Google Fast Pair. Take note though, to get the most out of your speaker you’ll need to grab the Sony Music Center app.
