Web Version of Microsoft Word to Get a Dark Mode

Microsoft confirmed the feature is currently in the works

Microsoft has recently confirmed that it’s working on a dark mode for Microsoft Word on the web, with the company also claiming it’s planning to start the rollout to users out there by the end of the month.

A dark mode in today’s software is something that has become increasingly common, especially because it helps reduce the eyestrain when working in the evening or during the night.

Furthermore, even operating systems have been updated with a dark mode, as both Windows and macOS now come with such a visual style. Most apps running on these two operating systems are sporting a dark mode as well, obviously to align the experience overall with the operating system itself.

Microsoft is one of the companies that have been working around the clock on this, with the company already offering a dark mode in most of its apps.

Rollout to be complete by the end of June

The Office suite makes no exception, as users can already enable a dark mode in the productivity suite on both Windows and macOS. Furthermore, Office can be configured to let the visual style align with the settings in the operating system, therefore offering a more consistent experience from one end to another.

As far as the web-based version of Microsoft Word was concerned, only a light mode was available, so users who relied on this application to work with documents had no dark mode option. This is now being resolved by Microsoft with an update that’s projected to go live by the end of the month, and as per Neowin, the rollout should be complete by the end of the next month.

“Dark Mode in Word for Web will provide a modern look for documents while giving users the ability to reduce eye strain and accommodate light sensitivity from long hours at a computer screen,” Microsoft explains on the Microsoft 365 roadmap page.
