通行密钥进一步提升了 Safari 浏览器的安全性，这种下一代认证方式更加安全，且使用简单，专门用于取代密码。通行密钥是一组具有唯一性的数字密钥，仅储存在设备端，永远不会上传至网络服务器，因而黑客无法使其泄漏，也无法诱骗用户分享它们。通行密钥为用户带来操作简单的安全登录方式，使用触控 ID 或面容 ID 进行生物特征认证，并可通过 iCloud 钥匙串以端到端加密方式同步至 iPhone 、iPad 和 Mac 。通行密钥同样适用于各类 app 与网络，用户使用 iPhone 便可在非 Apple 设备上登录相应的网站或 app 。
