I am stoked by the approach Indent is taking to access management and wanted to get it on your radar. We’ve all experienced the frustration of not knowing who to ask to get access to a resource that we urgently needed and then had to wait hours or days to finally get in.

On the flip side, as an approver I’ve also worried about forgetting to revoke access to something business critical, and never want to bottleneck my team. As companies grow, they have to become more careful about how they handle access control to things like infrastructure and cloud apps.

Over and over we’ve seen access control handled one of two ways – either default open access where every engineer has Editor/Owner access in Google Cloud, or tightly locked down IAM where finding the right approver and getting them to grant access can take days. At Indent, we think there’s a better way: on-demand access.

Indent users can request access by simply typing /access in Slack and find the Google Group they need. A preconfigured policy then pings the correct approver in Slack. The reviewer can green light the requested access for a specific length of time, and move on with their day without needing to open a single tab or set a reminder to revoke access later.
