DualSense controller firmware can now be updated on Windows without a PS5

DualSense controller users on PC now no longer need a PlayStation 5 console to keep their hardware updated. Sony today released an official tool to update the controller firmware on Windows 10 and 11.

Aptly named the "Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller", the tool can be easily utilized by plugging in a DualSense controller to a PC via a USB cable and then following the prompted messages on the screen, very much like on the PlayStation 5. While the controller will still function without firmware updates out of the box, Sony recommends keeping the internal workings updated for better performance and "proper functioning of the controller".

All that's required to install the software is a PC with Windows 10 (64 bit) or Windows 11, a hefty 10MB of free space, and at least a 1024 by 768 resolution display. DualSense owners on PC can download the official tool from Sony by heading over here.

As Sony expands its PC support, more exclusive games from its treasure cache are slowly being released on the platform too. With Horizon: Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and God of War now available, up next on the port schedule is the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
