Ghana’s Dancing PallBearers Auction Meme NFT for $1 million, 2 years After Going Viral

According to a post on his Twitter page, popular Ghanaian pallbearer, Benjamin Aidoo, is dancing all the way to bank after he sold his viral coffin dance as NFT for over $1 million.

According to a post on his Twitter page, popular Ghanaian pallbearer, Benjamin Aidoo, is dancing all the way to bank after he sold his viral coffin dance as NFT for over $1 million.

The video went viral in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic attracting both local and international interest.

In the video, the sharply dressed pallbearers donning sunglasses and suits are carrying a coffin while dancing.

According MyJoyOnline, On April 7, 2022, the video meme was minted by the Dancing Pallbearers team and placed under auction as an NFT.

The NFT was minted on Foundation.app, an NFT platform which describes itself as ‘a platform that aims to build a new creative economy – a world where creators can use the Ethereum blockchain to value their work in entirely new ways, and build stronger connections with their supporters.’

After reportedly intense bidding, 10-second meme sold two days on April 9, 2022:

Speaking about the NFT, Benjamin Aidoo, one of the Ghanain pallbearer in the popular meme videos, said:

“Together with the Ukrainian PR community, we are putting all our global popularity on the NFT auction. Our meme Coffin Dance (Dancing Pallbearers) will be listed on April 7, 2022, in order to help stop death in Ukraine, and help the people of Ukraine who are having a hard time.”

As can be seen in the twitter screenshot, the highest bidder, 3F Music, came tops in the bidding round, which saw the Coffin Dance meme sold for $1,046,079.54 (327.00ETH) on Saturday, April 9, 2022. 3F music is a Dubai-based recording agency known for purchasing meme-inspired NFTs.

Part of the details of the mint had indicated that Aidooh intended to donate some of the proceed of the mint to charity.
