从紫式部的《源氏物语》到川端康成的《伊豆的舞女》再到岩井俊二的《燕尾蝶》，“物哀”是江户时代日本国学大家本居宣长从传统东方文化中提炼的文化理念。这种感悟生情的唯美情感，贯穿古今，维系着东方文明中的种种创作，也是东西方古典艺术中差异最明显的部分。
在混沌中创造秩序，再让秩序重归混沌，周而复始。正是东方文化对于大千世界与复杂生命的体认。创作者从不耽恋于作品完成后的美，美好转瞬即逝，他们坦然面对轮回中的每一个瞬间。
