Fable Anniversary, Killer Instinct, Halo Wars, and other Xbox games now support Steam Deck

Microsoft announced the second wave (you can find the first one here) of Xbox Game Studios titles that now work on the Steam Deck. Seven new games received the "Verified" badge, which means they should be fully playable with no issues or additional optimizations required from developers. Four other games are "Playable," so they may require manual tweaking or controller mapping.

Here are the new verified for the Steam Deck games from Xbox Game Studios:

  • Fable Anniversary (2014).
  • Halo Wars: Definitive Edition (2017).
  • Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition (2016).
  • Killer Instinct (2017).
  • Kalimba (2015).
  • Halo: Spartan Strike (2015).
  • RUSH: A Disney|Pixar Adventure (2018).

And here are the four new playable games:

  • Minecraft Dungeons (2021).
  • Gears Tactics (2020).
  • Deadlight (2012).
  • Halo: Spartan Assault (2014).

Although the Steam Deck uses PC-like hardware, the console's quirky controls and Linux under the hood require Valve to verify hundreds of games to ensure they work on the Steam Deck. Valve has a dedicated Steam Deck compatibility page where users can check verified, playable, unsupported, and unknown (not yet confirmed) games.

It is also worth noting that Valve recently released a new Steam OS beta update that brought fTPM support, effectively making the Steam Deck compatible with Windows 11. Some users may think that running Windows 11 on the Steam Deck is the way to improve compatibility, but the problem is that the current driver set for Steam Deck does not provide a satisfactory Windows experience.
