New build likely coming next week, Microsoft says

If you’re part of the Windows Insider program and have been waiting for a new build this week, it’s not going to happen.

Microsoft has recently confirmed that Windows insiders wouldn’t get any new build this week, as the company now plans to update the Dev and Beta channels in a few days.

“Hey Folks - Just a heads up that we won't have a new #Windows11 flight for #WindowsInsiders in the Dev & Beta Channels this week. We hope to be back at it again next week with a fresh build!” Microsoft announced on Twitter via its Windows Insider Program account.

Windows 11 build 22581

The most recent Windows 11 build released to users landed on March 23 for both the Dev and Beta channels, and it included lots of improvements, starting with the broad availability of the tablet-optimized taskbar and ending with additional polishing for Settings and the system tray.

Microsoft not shipping a new build isn’t necessarily bad news, as users are provided with extra time to choose the channel they wish to remain part of.

Because the same build is available for both Dev and Beta channels, insiders can now switch from one ring to another with just a few clicks. This will continue to be possible until Microsoft ships a new build to one of the two channels.

“This window will close once we release builds with higher build numbers to the Dev Channel. If your device stays on the Dev Channel and receives a build that is a higher build number than what is in the Beta Channel, you will have to do a clean installation of the released version of Windows 11 on your device to switch to the Beta Channel,” Microsoft explains.

Since the release of build 22581, Microsoft has also shipped a couple of cumulative updates specifically supposed to help the company test the servicing pipeline.
