Twitter has finally added a long-requested feature: the ability to search your DMs for specific keywords. Let's explore how you can use this feature.

Ever lost a conversation on Twitter because you could only remember certain words? Now, you can use those words to locate your conversation.

Finally, Twitter lets you search for chats in your direct messages (DMs) using specific keywords. Let's find out more.

Twitter Launches a Keywords Feature for Searching Your DMs

Twitter has rolled out a feature that lets you search through your DMs using specific keywords, something its users have long requested.

This is a first for Twitter. Prior to the announcement, you could only search for names and groups, but you can now search for any keyword within your DMs and Twitter will pull up all the chats containing that word.

Twitter's keyword search for DMs is available on Android, iOS, and on the web. However, at the time of writing, the feature seems to be rolling out to users inconsistently.

Twitter seems to be focused on improving its DM features in 2022. In February, the social media company rolled out a feature that lets you pin your favorite Twitter DM conversations for quick access.

Searching through your DM chats using specific keywords on Twitter is quick and easy. Simply follow the steps below:

  1. Open Twitter on your phone or computer.
  2. Select the Messages icon.
  3. On the Search bar at the top of the screen, start typing the keyword you want to search.
  4. To search through chats containing that keyword, select Messages.
  5. Now scroll through and select the chats you want to open that contain that keyword.

Alongside the Messages tab, you can use the People and Groups tabs to search for conversations with specific people containing those keywords. There's also the All tab, which shows you all the people, chats, and groups containing the keyword you've searched.

Along with other features, Twitter has been improving its DM features over the last few years. For instance, in 2020, Twitter made it easier to access your DMs online.

Use Keywords to Find Your Twitter Conversations

While the ability to search your Twitter DMs using specific keywords seems long overdue, you can finally pull up chats containing those phrases in a matter of seconds.

This makes it a lot easier to source chats around specific topics, especially if all you remember is a keyword.
