Nice. It's a shame Microsoft always seems to adopt the attitude of it's one or the other. Window 8 was released in 2012 with a sole focus on tablets and touchscreens, but leaving desktop users out in the cold. In some ways that attitude is back with Windows 11, when it adopted the Windows 10X environment, aimed at (portable) touch screens, severely crippling the desktop and taskbar for desktop users. Now they'll spend two or three "feature releases" fixing what was never broke in Windows 10 default_hmm.gif

I love Windows 10 on tablets. I refuse to upgrade my trusty old Surface Pro 6 to 11. default_smile.png

Trying to make an interface that's optimized for both touch and desktop usage is a fool's errand. It's either going to be frustrating to use by touch, or feel clunky and waste lots of screen space on the desktop. It's best to have two separate interfaces that are optimized for their own type of usage.

Yeah would much rather have a tablet mode UI that can be switched to so that desktop use doesn't have to put up with stupid ass large buttons and loads of white space in title headers. It is not like Microsoft lacks the resources or money to do a PROPER job of that and fix the inconsistencies of the UI after failing at it since Windows 9x came around.

That's pretty much what they're doing with 11, they could've done it quicker but oh well.

KDE is about to get millions of potential users though, the Steam Deck

I used to like KDE but now it's just a heavy bloated mess. I'd much rather use xfce at this point.

Huh? KDE used to be bloated and slow but that is not the case anymore. When was the last time you used it?

I used to agree, but its very light and responsive these days. They worked on performance and resource usage a ton. In comparison its much more responsive than Windows 11.

The swipe gesture is cool and all but have never really had the urge (or need) to want to be lifting my hands up from the keyboard/mouse to get fingerprints on my display. I am buying a new laptop this year and hoping can still get one without a touchscreen so can save some bucks.

Oh, no. We know exactly what they are doing in Redmond: Accepting kickbacks and firing ethically inclined employees that protest.

It is no wonder idiots like Scott Hanselman and Olia Gavrysh are working at Microsoft.

KDE's touch pad gestures are amazing. I didn't even know they existed. Single tap to click, two finger tap for right click, adjustable zooming with two finger dragging or side of track pad. I wish they'd done this before when I still had touch netbook, but never used it with Linux because display rotation was all ######ed up and touch along with it. Every time I rotated display, touch remained fixed to old orientation and was totally disconnected from actual content on display. Oh well, Kubuntu works great on the ultrabook.
