Twitter made creating a GIF as easy as posting an image. Using the iPhone camera, users can capture a short video in the social-networking service’s app that is automatically converted into a GIF.

Here’s how to make your own GIFs with the Twitter app. It’s easy and fun.

How to make your own Twitter GIFs

To capture a GIF with the iPhone Twitter application, hit the plus button to start a new tweet. Then press the image button followed by the camera button. This will open the in-app camera.

One of the camera modes is now GIF. Press and hold the shutter button to control how long to record. But just keep in mind, you’re making a moving image not a video so you have at most a second or so to work with.

The Twitter app gives you the option to Retake if you don’t like the original. If you like it, hit the Use GIF button instead and the image will be added to the tweet you started earlier.

Your creation is also saved to your iPhone’s Camera Roll. From there, you can text it, or post it to other social media platforms that support this type of image.

This GIF-making feature is only available on the iPhone version of Twitter’s application. It’s not part of the iPad version, nor the Android one. Not right now, at least.

Have fun!

The feature was announced, not surprisingly, in a tweet. TwitterSupport wrote, “Ok GIFs aren’t new but what *is new* is the option to capture your own using the in-app camera on iOS.” The tweet includes a few examples of fun ways to use the new feature.
