Nitrux 是直接基于 Debian 的 Linux 桌面发行版。它使用 Calamares 安装程序，采用了被称为 NX 桌面的修改版 KDE Plasma 5 桌面环境。
Nitrux 是一个完整的操作系统，拥有自己的一套 Nitrux 应用程序，建立在 Maui 套件和 Qt 上。它提供日常使用的基本应用程序和服务：办公应用程序、PDF 阅读器、图像编辑器、音乐和视频播放器等，且包含一系列精心挑选的开箱即用的应用程序。
Nitrux 没有 systemd ，它使用 OpenRC 作为初始化系统。Nitrux 还为其用户提供来自 Git 的最新 MESA 驱动程序和针对密集型任务优化的内核，例如使用 XanMod 和 Liquorix 进行游戏。
