Microsoft Brings Search Highlights to Windows 10

New Windows 10 preview build now up for grabs

Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 preview build to users in the Release Preview channel, and the big change this time is the debut of search highlights.

Originally announced last week as part of the most recent Windows 11 preview build, this feature is supposed to overhaul the search experience by providing essential information to the user without the need for any kind of input.

In other words, while it still lets you search for anything, both locally and the web, the search feature bundled with Windows can now show additional content, including trending searches, images, holidays, and anniversaries.

Microsoft believes all of these come in handy to Windows 10 users, but the company is still giving them the option to turn the new experience off if they don’t like it.

“Explore additional content in search home related to each moment, with daily content like word of the day, Microsoft Rewards offers, trending searches, and more. Each day features something different to learn about! The left side of search home also shows an extended list of your recently launched apps, files, settings, and websites to help you get back to what you were doing last,” the company explains.

“Signing in with your work or school account enables Search to be your one-stop-shop for your organization’s files and contacts through Microsoft Search. Search highlights will feature the latest updates from your organization and suggested people, files, and more. Explore files that may be of interest to you or browse through your organization’s people chart. As always, just start typing to find everything related to your organization, right at your fingertips using Search.”

At this point, there’s still no ETA as to when the new search highlights will go live for production devices, but this moment shouldn’t be too far since Microsoft looks to be in a rush to expand its availability.
