How to Redeem a Code on the Nintendo Switch

Do you have a code for a Switch game or membership? Here's how to activate it on your Nintendo account within minutes.

It's incredibly easy to redeem a code on the Nintendo Switch once you know how. You might have a code to add balance to your Nintendo eShop account, redeem a Nintendo Switch Online membership, or to add a game to your console.

Whatever the case, you can either activate the code through the Nintendo Switch itself or via Nintendo's website. We're going to show you both methods.

How to Redeem a Code on the Nintendo Switch

The quickest way to redeem a code is through your Nintendo Switch console. The process is the same no matter which Switch model you have (standard, OLED, or Lite).

1. From the home screen of the Nintendo Switch, select Nintendo eShop from the bottom menu.
2. On the left-hand menu, select Redeem Code.
3. Enter the 16-character code in the field. Some keys on the on-screen keyboard will be disabled to indicate they aren't used in any code.
4. Press Confirm to activate your game/app/service.

If you entered a code for a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, it will ask whether you wish to enable automatic renewal. If you do, you will need to supply a payment method. You can always cancel your Nintendo Switch Online membership whenever you want.

How to Redeem a Code on the Nintendo Website

Alternatively, if you don't have immediate access to your Switch, you can redeem a code through Nintendo's website.

1. Visit Nintendo's redemption page.
2. Sign in to your Nintendo Account; ensure this is the same account you use on your Switch. If you're already signed in, check the account in the top-right.
3. Enter the 16-character code in the field.
4. Select Next.
5. Enter your Nintendo Account password.
6. Select Redeem to finish. Your game/app/service will be waiting for you on your Switch.

If you want to save money on your downloadable Nintendo Switch games, consider buying outside the eShop. There are plenty of online retailers who discount Switch games. You'll get a game code which you can then redeem using the instructions above.
