New build promotes more apps to inbox apps

The latest Windows 11 preview build comes with several changes for users, including two new inbox apps that will be available for users who install the new operating system.

The first of them is Microsoft Family, an app that makes it possible for parents to set up controls for their children and block the access to certain apps.

“The family safety features you use on web and mobile are now available on Windows 11 starting with this build with the Microsoft Family app. Set parental controls to filter inappropriate apps and games and set browsing to kid-friendly websites for Microsoft Edge. Help your kids balance their screen time activity on Windows, Xbox, and Android and use activity reporting to better understand your family’s digital activity. Stay connected even when you’re apart with family location tracking,” Microsoft announced.

The app will be available on Windows 11 Home edition, and it will receive updates from the Microsoft Store. Windows 11 Pro users, on the other hand, will have to install it manually from the Store.

Enter a new video editor

Clipchamp, Microsoft’s new video editor, is also becoming a Windows 11 inbox app, with the company praising its capabilities in an announcement today.

“What really sets Clipchamp apart from other video editors is its timeline. Normally, this is an interface reserved for pros because it offers more control (and complication) than the everyday editor can handle. When it comes to Clipchamp, however, things are delightfully different. We’ve kept all the best parts of timeline editing — the flexibility, the ability to fine tune details — and done away with the rest. The result is a refreshingly simple video editing experience anyone can enjoy,” it says.

The two apps should be promoted to inbox app on production devices later this year, possibly when the 22H2 update goes live for all PCs.
