Fisterra is an incredibly strong offering from TipoType, a striking new font that explores the “duality between the calm and the intensity with which we can face each situation.” TipoType further describes Fisterra as “informal, serif and display in two flavors: Morte has the softness and the humanism of its voluptuous curves; Fora, the precision and accuracy of its sharp angles.”

Although the two individual styles share “a single skeleton of condensed uppercase letters,” and gorgeous alternate characters and ligatures, they exude two sharply distinct moods. Morte is indeed softer and curvier, Fora sharp and angular. As such, the messaging is strengthened by the respective choice. Both emanations are stern and stylish, sending an authoritative message with sporty dash. Both have an old world solidity, a definitively established voice.

Fisterra is comprised of 248 characters, every one remarkable. The consistence of the artistry and the meticulous attention to detail are astounding. For instance, the fractions, punctuation, symbols, mark spacing, currencies: each on is singular, crafted with flair and exactitude. Fisterra’s dollar sign is made to inspire exponential replication, and the question mark implies you already know and your audience must find out. The Z in Pizza? It’s the place with the line out the door.

Fisterra’s two styles, Morte and Fora. Informal, serif, display. This generous, versatile tool-as-art is excellent for branding, visual identity, book and album covers, films, art projects, posters, fashion and accessories, signage, titles and headlines, and more.

Quality and singularity like TipoType’s Fisterra’s are standalone impressive. When you consider the rest of TipoType’s collection, the greater body of work puts it in context: every font they create is a masterwork. TipoType was integral to the development of a Latin American typographic style, and their projects have won awards around the world. They are also advocates, communicators, and teachers, participating in lectures and round tables in Uruguay, Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Paraguay, Bolivia, and Mexico. TipoType, founded in 2006, are at the top of the field. If you are not familiar with their work, we are doubly excited to present Fisterra as an introduction.
