When you want to learn from mentors and peers in your field, a conference is a great place to find a meeting of minds. And whether you're a data analyst, data scientist, or data engineer, event producers have a conference for you. Here's our list of names, places, and dates where you can spend your education and travel budget.

10 conferences for general data pros

Digital Analytics Hub

"DA Hub brings together top analytics professionals for in-depth idea exchange," this conference's website proclaims. DA Hub is oriented toward conversations, not presentations, and limited to 160 registrants. Attendees can pick seven of the 50 or so 90-minute "huddles" over the course of three days. Typical attendees might be the chief data officer or head of analytics for a data-driven company.

Superweek

Superweek gathers about 200 digital marketing professionals and data analysts for five days in a mountaintop hotel in Hungary, 65 miles northwest of Budapest. The conference has a single track with dozens of sessions over the course of a week. A conference pass for the whole week runs €1150 plus €310.50 VAT, and other packages are available.

Data Council

Data Council holds conferences in San Francisco (April 7–8), Singapore (Summer), Barcelona (Fall), and New York (November) to "provide data professionals with the learning and networking opportunities they need to grow their careers." The upcoming San Francisco conference has six tracks over two days, with more than 50 talks for different kinds of data pros. Attendance is limited to 500. The San Francisco event is held at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF, and costs $799.

Strata Data Conference

O'Reilly holds two separate Strata Data Conferences, in San Jose (March 15–18) and London (April 20–23). Each includes two days of training courses and two days of speakers and sessions. Strata is now held at the same time and place as O'Reilly's AI Conference.

Crunch Data Conference

Crunch is "a use-case heavy conference for people interested in building the finest data-driven businesses and gaining insight on the latest tools and trends in data engineering, business analytics, and data science." It's held annually in Budapest. We don't have 2020 dates or pricing info yet, but the 2019 conference in October was $345.

TWDI Conference

TWDI is producing four conferences in 2020, in Las Vegas, Chicago, San Diego, and Orlando. Unlike some data analytics conferences, TWDI focuses on education, and courses cover a wide range of topics, including analytics and business intelligence, data management, and data strategy.

Gartner Marketing Symposium/Xpo

Gartner Marketing Symposium is aimed at marketing professionals, but it has a data and analytics track. If your job spans both fields, you might learn a lot — but you'll pay a lot too: standard registration for the three-day conference costs more than $4,000. The event is aimed at marketing executives and managers whose teams focus on social media, content marketing, multichannel marketing, and marketing trends and strategy.

DAA OneConference

The Digital Analytics Association's DAA OneConference brings attendees to Chicago for two days of education and networking, and the presentation of the Quantie Awards. The DAA also hosts local symposia in 16 cities across the US.

  • 2020 dates and location: October 21–23 in Chicago
  • Pricing info: TBA

Accelerate

Analytics Demystified has hosted an Accelerate conference on and off over the last few years. The most recent event was in 2019 in the San Francisco Bay Area. It featured round table discussions with analytics pros and vendor presentations in a single day for $299. No upcoming Accelerate appears in the offing.

MeasureCamp

MeasureCamp, inspired by BarCamps, is an "unconference." It's free to attend, held on a Saturday, and local — MeasureCamps are held around the world. Sessions may be presentations or discussions or workshops, depending on who shows up. MeasureCamp is a great way to meet local data professionals.

Women in Analytics

The mission of the Women in Analytics conference is to "increase visibility to the women making an impact in the analytics space and provide a platform for women to lead the conversations." The organizers make it clear that "all other aspects of the conference are open to everyone" regardless of gender identification. The event includes speakers, workshops, and a data visualization competition.

Special interest conferences

PyData

PyData holds conferences in cities on five continents (sorry, Australia) throughout the calendar year. From the organization's website:

PyData conferences bring together users and developers of data analysis tools to share ideas and learn from each other. The PyData community gathers to discuss how best to apply Python tools, as well as tools using R and Julia, to meet evolving challenges in data management, processing, analytics, and visualization.

We aim to be an accessible, community-driven conference, with tutorials for novices, advanced topical workshops for practitioners, and opportunities for package developers and users to meet in person.

Predictive Analytics World

Predictive Analytics World covers the commercial deployment of machine learning and predictive analytics. Some of its conferences focus on particular vertical markets, such as finance, health care, and government. Events are scheduled for Munich, Las Vegas, and London. Each features speakers, workshops, and sessions.

Marketing Analytics Summit

Marketing Analytics Summit lives at the intersection of digital analytics and marketing. It features speakers, workshops, and sessions. In addition to the upcoming US conference, events are planned for London, Milan, and Berlin.

Phew — so many opportunities to learn and network! And if those aren't enough for you, let us point you to two lists of 2019 conferences, many of which may hold events in 2020, along with ongoing events calendars from Measure Chat and KDnuggets.

Finally, we'd be remiss not to mention our own company's events, including Talend Connect US and Talend Connect Europe later in the year. You can also learn a lot by joining a local Talend User Group and attending meetups with your peers.

That's our list — what's on yours? Can you suggest events you're found valuable?
