印度央行(Reserve Bank of India)副行长 T. Rabi Sankar 在一次银行会议上将加密货币比作是庞氏骗局。他告诉与会者，加密货币是特别为绕过受监管金融系统设计开发的，没有任何现金流支持。加密货币无法定义为货币、资产或商品；它们没有作为基础支撑的现金流，没有内在价值；它们类似于庞氏骗局，甚至可能更糟糕。他说，作为一种价值储藏，比特币之类的加密货币到目前为止产生了超高额的回报，但 17 世纪的荷兰郁金香同样如此。
