1月上旬，拜登政府任命了一位性少数人士山姆·布林顿，担任能源部下属的核能办公室的副助理秘书。而随着此事在网络上慢慢发酵，布林顿曾经的一些照片被挖了出来，很多美国保守派网民或明或暗地表示，此人并非常人，任职能源部处理核废料不太靠谱。不过，从个人资料来看，布林顿的确拥有核能方面的学历，能算是个专家。只不过拜登政府的这一任命，很难不被看做是迎合身份政治，以期获得更多左翼选民的支持。
