A new app list overflow experience is being worked on

Microsoft refreshed the taskbar in Windows 11 with an improved UI, but at the same time, some features have also gone missing for absolutely no good reason.

Now it’s believed Microsoft is working on polishing the experience with the taskbar in Windows 11, and Twitter user Albacore has recently spotted new improvements that are expected to launch later this year.

More specifically, it looks like Microsoft will add a new taskbar app list overflow experience, whose purpose is to make it easier to select a running app. This clearly isn’t much, but the flyout does look modern, therefore giving the taskbar a much-anticipated refresh.

More taskbar improvements

While nobody knows for sure when this new taskbar feature is supposed to arrive for production devices, Microsoft is already planning some improvements much sooner.

The company will release the very first Windows 11 update later this month, and in addition to the public preview of Android apps on the desktop, it will also come with additional polishing for the taskbar.

“Next month we’re bringing new experiences to Windows that include a public preview of how you can use Android apps on Windows 11 through the Microsoft Store and our partnerships with Amazon and Intel, taskbar improvements with call mute and unmute, easier window sharing and bringing weather to the taskbar, plus the introduction of two new redesigned apps, Notepad and Media Player,” the Redmond-based software giant announced in January.

Of course, Microsoft still has a lot of work to do in order to improve the taskbar, especially as it needs to bring back some features that mysteriously disappeared with the release of Windows 11. One of them is the support to move the taskbar to another part of the screen, though it’s believed that this option is already in testing as part of private Windows 11 builds.
