Building intentional products 🗓️

Hey Product Hunt! Our Android launcher was designed to help you focus on what matters. Here's how it does that: 🧠 Intention reminder · Seeing your intention makes it easier to follow-through on what you care about ⚫ Greyscaled · Black and white home screen is less distracting 🧰 Unbranded icons · prevent compulsive usage by thinking of your apps as tools 🛑 Reduce app usage · Set a timer for how long you want to use certain apps and be gently nudged once you exceed your allotted time 🆓 Free · No ads, no subscriptions.

We're an open-source community that has deep roots in humane tech; The app was originally launched by Siempo in 2018. After the company shut down in 2020, us volunteers stepped up to keep the app alive. Since then, we rebranded the app, fixed bugs, and organized our community, and are in the middle of modernizing the UI.

We're launching here now for two reasons: 1. To spread the word -- It's in public beta now, so any Android user can start protecting their focus

2. To ask for help -- Many of our early contributors got busy with life, which means we need others to get involved if we're to continue building a humane mobile interface.

Although we're all volunteers, there are some major benefits of helping out: - Join community of like-minded people - Experience building in an open-source, distributed team - No barriers to entry; just help however and whenever you can. - Strengthen your resume: feature your Focus Launcher work in a portfolio and get a letter of recommendation from me or another lead contributor.

No matter what your skillset or availability is, you can help us grow. We're currently in the middle of redesigning the app to make it more modern and simple. So if you're interested in designing the next iteration of this product, this is a great time to get involved. Learn how: https://www.focuslauncher.io/get...

We'd love your feedback on the app itself and our community. Thank you ❤️

UX Designer. Impactful humane design.
Anytime I have to tell someone about Focus Launcher, I start with how relatable the problem it solves are. Most people struggle with some degree of phone addiction. Focus Launcher helps solves that problem. The aim is to use your phone more intentionally, and to not let it control you. It helps people FOCUS on things that matter. I am therefore elated to be one of many who contribute to the rebuilding of Focus Launcher.
Startup Ethics Advisor

Siempo co-founder here (original developer/brand), thrilled to see the Focus Launcher community picking up where we left off 😌

Background: after initially trying to build a mindful smartphone device, we were the first to launch a mindful/humane/minimal launcher in the Play Store. It's heartening to witness 16+ launchers following in our footsteps, while disheartening to notice that none of them have cracked 1M downloads, meaningfully differentiate from low hanging fruit, or center ethical business practices e.g. we made the app open source because we cared about this work continuing in the world, regardless of if we were the ones to make it happen.

Parting vision: https://aandrewdunn.medium.com/v...

There's a beautiful opportunity for a creative and diverse community of stakeholders to rally around the quest to build out a more humane smartphone interface. Those of us who have worked on this problem space in the past have found the work meaningful and enriching. We are proud of the seeds we planted and look forward to watching the fruits blossom 🌱
