Top UX & Design Books

At my last job, I started a UX book club to help my company better understand why UX is important. As the book club progressed, I started to collect data on the overall value it brought to not just our UX team, but the company as a whole. People started to understand UX better and often think about things more critically before asking questions or giving feedback on designs or features. The team recived more respect from the development team and from stakeholders. We also were brought into more discussions because the teams had an understanding of what was a UX issue and what was just a simple fix.

I wrote an article about the benefits here. (coming soon)

Before creating the book club, I came up with a list of books that I found value in and had been recommended to me by other designers. We started with ‘The Design of Everyday Things,” Which really appealed to our engineers. After we finished a book, the UX team members would each pick a book and put them up for a vote with the whole book club. There would ususally be 3–5 books to pick from. This cycle continued for about two years.

Unfortunately, the company I was at was acquired, and I decided it was in my best interest to leave. Before I did, I posted this list in our UX book club slack channel for the rest of my colleagues to continue on their own time.

Here is the list of the books we read and were planning to read. You can also find quick links to buy these books on Amazon here.
