Formfunction
The 1/1 Solana NFT marketplace for independent creators
Web3 is still in the early phases, but current tools' impact on creators/artists is massive.
Thrilled to present Formfunction, which is one of them that will elevate what creators do in the Solana blockchain.
This seems like the most important way to position a marketplace for artists right now, as so many are actively opting out of the NFT wave due to a lack of information. The Ubisoft exec who said gamers "don't get" NFTs may have phrased it in an obnoxious way, but broadly I agree. The two concerns I hear most are that they're a speculative investment and they're bad for the environment (without getting into the "They're not real/ I can right click save" arguments from people who spend crazy amounts on brand goods when there are cheap, indistinguishable counterfeits on the market).
There are many people, like myself, who just want to buy art to have the art and support the artist, with no agenda around owning it as an asset to flip when it's advantageous to do so.
Whether or not NFTs constitute an investment is down to the buyer. Are Pokemon cards an investment or a card game? That depends on your intention. As functional NFTs grow, I think people will start to see that they're not necessarily a grift-- i.e. not innately-- especially in the context of game worlds. Understanding that not all NFTs/blockchains are equal in terms of environmental cost will also be important, because right now, most mainstream commentary seems intent on framing NFTs' impact as Ethereum's impact.
Good luck!
gm Product Hunt! 🌟 We’re thrilled to bring Formfunction—the 1/1 Solana NFT marketplace—into the world with an amazing group of independent launch artists.
You can explore and bid on an incredible set of genesis pieces here: https://formfunction.xyz.
We created Formfunction because we believe that the future of NFTs will be driven by independent artists and creators—illustrators, photographers, musicians, writers—who care deeply about their craft and take a long-term view of their work.
Our mission is to support these creators’ journeys and help them make a living with NFTs. But our goal isn’t just to build an amazing 1/1 art marketplace on Solana—we want to change the way creators make a living, for the better.
Today, to make a livable income, most creatives need to pick up 5-6 different income streams, spend hours each week making content with no guarantee of a return, fret over follower counts, and agonize over losing a social media account that can be taken away at any moment.
We want to return power to artists—to give them true ownership over their work, help them build an audience that can’t be taken away, and make it possible for them to earn a decent living with just 100 true fans.
We’re starting with creating a home for amazing art on Solana, but in the long run we’re building an end-to-end support system for creators who want to make a living with NFTs.
With Solana, we can offer low fees and minimal environmental impact. And by prioritizing simple user experiences, we’re welcoming the next generation of artists to the world of NFTs.
Join us on our mission to make something amazing for independent artists, together 🙌 And be sure to check out our genesis artists and their incredible first pieces here: https://formfunction.xyz
