This PR fixes misspellings throughout the code, although almost all of them are in comments. In a couple of places I also fixed the spelling of what was clearly a typo in a code symbol.
Although this touches many files, it's because a single typo was copy/pasted in a comment across many files.
Reasons to merge this:
- searching across files for anything is better when everything is spelled correctly
- user experience (in error strings or user-facing output)
- improves the perceived quality of our code to anyone reading it
