Meet the Arrival Car

Arrival’s made-for-Uber EV prototype looks like an elegant minivan

Arrival, the Anglo-American startup that aims to shake up the design and manufacturing of EV fleets, is ready to show us the first prototype of its Car (yes, with a capital C).

As you might have already guessed, this is no ordinary passenger vehicle. Instead, the Arrival Car has been created specifically for the ride-hailing industry and designed in partnership with Uber.

The Car looks more like an elegant minivan and sure looks like a futuristic, electric update of London’s black cabs. I especially like its hood-to-rear panoramic roof.

According to the company, the Arrival Car focuses on maximizing interior space and comfort, and for this reason it features twice as much legroom as the average vehicle of the same length.

With this design, Arrival says that the driver’s comfort and convenience are a focal point as well, stating that the average rideshare vehicle travels 45-50,000km a year, while the average private vehicle travels 12,000km.

In fact, the company claims it has been working closely with Uber drivers to understand their needs and to create a vehicle that improves their experience.

Starting in 2022, Arrival will begin testing the vehicle to identify which elements of the first prototype need refinement or improvement, before the Car enters the production phase in the third quarter of 2023.
