Find out how the Legion Gaming Phone SDK can help you create more immersive mobile experiences.

With the number of mobile gamers increasing to more than 2.5 billion this past year – generating a total global revenue of over $95B – it’s never been more important to optimize the player experience. This, of course, requires the right tools and resources ready to go.

In this blog, we’ll look at how the Lenovo Legion smartphone, along with Legion SDK, a Unity Verified Solutions Partner (VSP), can empower developers like you to create more captivating mobile games and expand player reach. Read on for a breakdown of features, applicable approaches, and more.

Legion SDK VSP capabilities

The Legion phone has two major APIs, each with their own distinct capabilities. The U-Engine vibration API defines vibration feedback in games or apps, while the Legion iconic lighting API regulates the device’s general lighting effects.

As a Verified Solutions Partner, the Legion SDK serves to simplify the integration of features on Legion phones. Consider the distinction between the dual vibration and the Android origin vibration. The origin vibration calls to the bottom layer with time parameters and amplitude, whereas the dual LRA (Linear Resonant Actuator) vibration controls the vibration of those two motors separately, managing the duration and effect of both the vibration and SDK function. As such, you can make your player’s phone vibrate during battle or while scoring points, similar to most console controllers today.

When it comes to hardware, meanwhile, there are six monochromatic lamps that can be adapted to the application scene independently, and debugged separately as needed, for greater precision.

Additionally, there are a few types of lights on Legion devices. One is a Legion light that contains red and blue colors, and another is a Y-type light that supports the three primary colors of red, blue, and green. Use these to customize LED lighting to reflect what goes on in the game. For example, your player’s phone might flash red when their character dies, or blue when they join the blue team. All of this adds up to more interactive user experiences.

Legion Realm joins UDP for further global reach

With Android game revenue on the rise around the globe, there’s no better time to prioritize player reach. That’s where Lenovo Legion Realm, now part of the Unity Distribution Portal (UDP), comes in.

Designed to give developers direct access to dedicated gamers, Legion Realm is the ideal platform to showcase your app globally. In fact, the store comes preloaded on the Lenovo Legion phone, so you’re well-equipped to reach intentional mobile gamers worldwide. If you’re already on UDP, you can further extend your audience reach on the Legion Realm store to get your game in front of enthusiastic players. If this is all new to you, start by signing up on the Unity Distribution Portal, where you’ll be able to create a concrete Game Plan and prepare your submission to Legion Realm, among other Android app stores on UDP – all from a single hub.

There are currently more than 1,000 studios using the Unity Distribution Portal to share their mobile games on app stores around the world. To name a couple, Azur Games and Animoca Brands have both benefited from UDP’s capacity to accelerate their overall mobile market coverage.

If you’re a developer looking to publish your games on Legion Realm from the UDP interface, prepare to answer the following questions:

  • Which app stores do you want to sell your game on?
  • How do you plan to monetize your game (ads, IAP, a combination)?
  • Which languages will your game support?
  • Where do you want your game sold (regionally)?

Once you submit your responses, you’ll receive a few recommendations based on your answers. These will help you better plan your submission to mobile stores like Legion Realm or any other Android store through the UDP. The Game Plan provides personalized guidance regarding metadata and game builds, tailored to store-specific requirements. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that you’ve covered all of your bases, to increase the chances of your submission being accepted by both the UDP and selected app store(s).

If you already have an existing game, you can find your Game Plan under that game’s page on the UDP console. For new game submissions, go to the My Games page and answer the relevant questions to create your Game Plan.

How Legion SDK supports Capcom’s Rockman

By leveraging Dual HaptiX and RGB lighting via Legion SDK, Capcom has considerably enhanced their player experience for Mega Man, also known as Rockman, on the Legion phone. More specifically, they worked to trigger the vibrate motor whenever players shoot in the game, as well as interactive RGB lights that turn red while engaging in boss fights.

Even more, Capcom recently launched a digital campaign through Legion Realm to increase news exposure, devise an exclusive game intro, capitalize on push notifications, highlight in-game reward items, and essentially, attract more players to join.

The result? A conversion rate just over 18%, which has significantly boosted the installation of the Rockman game app.

Now, it’s your turn to amplify player reach and heighten your in-game experiences. For more information on Legion SDK, reach out to [email protected].
