About the role

About Us

Hyper is an avatar social network for iOS. We allow anyone with a modern iOS device to build an avatar and go live to the internet with the push of a button. "Real" avatar live-streamers spend $10,000+ on elaborate motion capture setups to go live– we can do most of this right from a modern phone's sensors and computer vision.

What's our progress?

We presented an earlier version of our product at W21, and we're about to launch a new version of our platform that we've been working on for the last few months. This version of the app is built with Swift, UIKit, and a touch of SwiftUI.

Get in touch to see a preview of our app (which will be going live in a few weeks)!

Why now?

There's a number of exciting trends coming together on the internet:

  • Avatars have existed for decades, but are finally going mainstream: A Gucci purse recently sold on Roblox for $7,000, and Fortnite skins are pulling in billions of dollars annually.
  • Pseudonymity is going mainstream: from Crypto founders with hidden identities to Twitter personalities, more and more people are building communities and even companies that aren't tied to their real identity. They want new ways to communicate in real-time. We think avatars will be the way that's done.
  • Avatar live-streamers (also called Vtubers) are exploding as a content format! Netflix recently created their own avatar live-streamer, and there's an explosion of them all across Twitch and YouTube, usually produced by well-funded agencies. In fact, in October 2020 8/10 of the top YouTube "SuperChat" earners were avatar live-streamers.

Company Culture

Our team is global, with some of us in California, and others in Japan, South Korea, and parts of Europe.

Everyone at our company is interested in either internet culture, DAOs, and social apps, or interactive media like anime, comics, and games. We want people that are excited about avatars and familiar with their potential as an expression format.

Role & Responsibility

As the iOS lead, you'll be responsible for roadmapping and architecting the technical foundation of Hyper's iOS experiences and features. You'll also be responsible for managing development of the client with other teammates, freelancers, and contractors.

  • Work with exciting, uncommon Apple frameworks like SceneKit, ARKit, and more.
  • Define and build the technical foundation for Hyper's iOS experiences / features.
  • Be responsible for the client deployment process, like deploying TestFlights for testing.
  • Be responsible for maintaining performant, reusable, and reliable code.
  • Iterate quickly and contribute to the product roadmap to help us find product market fit.

What we look for.

Ideally you're in California-- we'll have to work together closely to iterate fast. But really, you can be anywhere if the fit is right. You should include your resume, but we don't care too much about that. Most importantly we want proof that you can do this, and a feel for what you're into.

  • Your Github & LinkedIn
  • A portfolio of open-source projects, or of live projects you've built.
  • What's something you've worked on that you're most proud of?
  • What's your experience with avatars?
