贝索斯(Jeff Bezos)旗下的 Blue Origin 公布了名为“轨道礁（Orbital Reef）”的私人空间站计划，该公司将与包括波音在内的多家航天公司合作建造这一空间站，预计 2020 年代末建成并部署。“轨道礁”将最多可容纳 10 人，该公司描述其为太空中的“多用途商业园区”，能为太空游客提供“异国风情的接待”。按该私人空间站的设计，可居住空间为 830 立方米，比国际空间站（916立方米）略小。“轨道礁”的基础配置包括电源系统、核心模块、生命栖息所、科学模块和宇宙飞船。在“轨道礁”建设过程中，Blue Origin 将提供“实用系统”和“核心模块”，并计划使用其重型运载火箭进行发射。波音将负责“轨道礁”的运行和维护，还将提供科学模块。项目组成员表示，“轨道礁”的客户包括各国政府、私营企业和太空游客。国际空间站预计将于 2028 年至 2030 年退役，届时“轨道礁”或可接棒。
