Technical Specifications

Tire Options

Now offered in a choice of upgraded 10×3″ Tuovt street tires, or the hybrid off-road Tupda 10×3″ type.

The wider tire offers a number of ride quality benefits over the 10×2.5″ size: better stability at speed,  longer service life, & reduced likelihood of punctures, having a larger contact surface area with the road surface.

Knobbly tires are generally not recommended, if intended to use the scooter predominately on paved surfaces; it makes for a rougher ride, & the handling in turns is degraded. However, with this hybrid tire, it offers a compromise between traction off-road, while providing a tread that is continuous enough, where the ride quality is not dramatically negatively impacted for street use.

In short, if you intended to use the scooter exclusively on a paved environment, then go for the street tires. If it’s a mix of paved & off-road terrain, then the hybrid tires will be better suited for your needs.

Battery Pack

Upgraded 60v battery pack with a capacity of 21Ah/1260Wh with enough juice to drive the upgraded dual-1200W motors. This higher voltage translates into improved acceleration, with a higher 5MPH potential max speed/RPM over the original Lightning’s 52v battery. Beyond the voltage difference, the Lightning+ has an additional 303Wh of capacity, translating into approximately 10+ miles of range over the standard Lightning. In the price difference between the types, you’re effectively paying for the higher quality LG battery cell in the Lightning+.

Dual-motor High Performance Scooter

With so many scooters available to choose from, the Lightning stands out in delivering some of the best performance, in the same price bracket as a comparable single-motor scooter from Speedway or other brands. The classic Lightning has dual-1000W motors (upgraded from 2x 800W) & two independent controllers that can deliver a peak power output of 3,600W. The top speed is up to 40MPH on flat ground & has plenty of surplus power to tackle most gradients you can throw at it.

Battery Pack

The classic Lightning is now offered in a single battery size of 957Wh, composed of the Sincpower 18650 2.6Ah cells. By way of comparison, this is 5x larger than the Ninebot ES2 scooter, 2.5x higher than the Boosted Rev & 50% larger than the Turbowheel Dart. On a larger, faster scooter, there is a tendency to operate them at higher speeds, which consumes considerably more battery per mile. Assuming a 160lb Rider, cruising on a long open paths @ 20MPH, the general rule of thumb is that battery consumption is 25Wh/mile, providing about 37 miles with the Sincpower pack. The battery pack is configured as a 14S7P—14 cells in series & 7 parallels, a total of 98x 18650 battery cells.

Extra Features

There’s a few extra touches that make the Lightning standout from the other models, such the key security system (you’ll still need to physically lock the scooter) & the voltmeter positioned above this. On the side are dual-input charging ports, to use two standard chargers at once—you can also use a 5A rapid-charger, but not 2x 5A chargers at once. Another unique feature to this scooter is the screw-adjustable rear suspension damper, to set the ride firmness to the preference & weight of the Rider.

How Does the Lightning Compare?

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Does the regular Lightning [18Ah] also include the Zoom Hydraulic brakes?
    No
  • What features does the Lightning+ have that the Lightning does not?
    1) pair of 1200W motors vs 1000W motor on the Lightning, 2) Xtasy fold-in handlebars, 3) 67v/1260Wh 21Ah battery pack vs 52/957Wh 18Ah on the Lightning
  • Is it possible to upgrade the Lightning to Lightning+?
In theory it is possible, but would involve quite a few changes: motors + battery + controller. On purely costs grounds alone, it is probably not worthwhile.
  • My Lightning has the Sincpower 18.2A battery, can I upgrade to the LG 22.4Ah Battery pack?
Yes, we now have the Battery packs available for $830 inclusive of shipping.
  • Other sites list the capacity of the LG Battery as 24Ah, here it’s specified as a 22.4Ah, which one is correct?
The LG battery pack uses the LG MH1, these have a nameplate capacity of 3.2Ah each x 7 cells in parallel = 22.4Ah
  • Is this the same scooter as the Zero 10X?
Yes, the Zero is the Singapore rebranded version of the T10-DDM from the manufacturer. Both Zero & Turbowheel are branded versions of the T10-DDM.
  • How waterproof is the Lightning, can I use it in the rain?
The Manufacturer’s recommendation is that you try to avoid excessively wet conditions, puddles & standing water. During assembly, the factory has sealed up the entry points to the battery compartment, etc; however, if it is very wet, water may find its way into the sensitive interior, resulting in water related damage.
  • Do you ship outside of North America
    Unfortunately not at this time.
  • Are there off-road hybrid tires available?
Yes, we now have the hybrid knobbly tires in stock.
  • Is there a seat available for the Lightning?
An option seat kit is in stock for $110 including shipping for existing customers..
  • How many charge/discharge cycles can one expect from the battery pack?
This depends on a variety of factors: the weight of the Rider, high usage of regenerative braking, frequent hill use, how hard it’s driven, weather conditions (freezing temperatures are not ideal for Li-ion batteries), & most importantly the end-point charging voltage. If you use the 5A fast-charger & set the termination point to 80-90%, this single action alone can extend the lifespan of the battery by up to 4-5 times! The other benefit of partial charging, is that it lowers the risk of degrading your battery pack through the use of regenerative braking on a full charge.
  • With the dual-charger inputs, what is recommended maximum rate of charge?
We offer an optional 58v/5A rapid-charger for the scooter (see below), which represents roughly a 1:1 ratio of charge to ride time, this is about 3x higher than the stock charger.

  • What type of warranty is provided?
We offer a one year warranty for the parts & labour. It does not include shipping costs, which may be between $80-$200 (round-trip within the US), depending on the distance from our repair center in Tucson, AZ. While other dealers of Electric Scooters typically only offer a 3-6 warranty for the battery pack, we stand by our products with a full one year warranty. Exclusions to the warranty are wear-and-tear & improper use, please refer to our warranty page for the full terms & conditions.
