What does it mean to “Reinvent the Wheel”?

“Reinvent the Wheel” is a phrase that’s people use to telling other people not to do work that has already been done by somebody else. Because reinventing, or recreating, the wheel makes absolutely no sense since somebody has already done the work. This is a phrase that is used often in the American workplace.





”Reinvent the Wheel” In a Sentence




Bob:  “Let’s create a new operating system for that 
cell phone.”

Tom: “Well, Bob, I don’t think we should write a new 
operating system when we can just buy an operating
 system from Nokia or Samsung.  We shouldn’t 
reinvent the wheel right?”
