Surely this needs changing in the M1 world?Although it could get away with a few word processor-related jobs, MacBook Air is typically for Internet browsing and not working.

And no, the cloud is not an option, just a back up for me. Try going out to the field and waiting for files to download at 2G or 3G speeds, or no internet at all.

The majority of people don't need more, so, this is not a joke.256 GB… what a joke. All of my projects range in the 14-20 GB storage, I would need many external drives just to work on a regular week.

I wish we had these deals in Europe, would be an instant buy.

Not everyone needs a lot of storage space. Personally, I'd rather have more than 8GB of RAM, but paying $350 more to do a BTO for a MBA with 16GB seems like such a rip off.256 GB… what a joke. You sound like a power user who needs the extra storage. Most folk probably aren't experts like you so just need a regular amount of storage.256 GB… what a joke. All of my projects range in the 14-20 GB storage, I would need many external drives just to work on a regular week.

Then buy the 512 GB model Air. It is also on sale.256 GB… what a joke. All of my projects range in the 14-20 GB storage, I would need many external drives just to work on a regular week.

Or buy a Pro 13 and add storage.
Or wait until the 14 and 16" models come out and buy one of those.
Lots of options other than the base configuration Air listed in the article.
As someone who moved from the 16" MBP with 32 GB and 1 TB drive to the base Air, I can say I have no regrets and enjoy using the Air more than I did the 16" MBP.

That is a pretty rare model. So likely they do not have a lot of them sitting in a warehouse. Why don't they ever have deals on 1 TB model??

The technology is built into the OS and leveraged when the hardware is present. It's why it works seamlessly now and is a viable alternative for most folks.Hopefully the next iteration will support two external monitors without requiring the use of a kludge like DisplayLink.

You may not know it, but iCloud is really a good option. It auto uploads all your files in your Desktop and Documents folders to the cloud and leaves a good amount of free space in your computer without even you know it.256 GB… what a joke. Using iCloud with a 256 GB Mac, you will always have 50 to 80 GB of free space in your computer, so even if you are in the middle of nowhere without a reliable internet connection, you will still have enough room for your project.
Once you come back to your office/home, some of the older files will be removed from your computer (with their icons still being usable to you), and you will get your 50 - 80 GB of free space back.
Also, I wonder why you are not considering using a cheap, fast external drive? All the people that I know who work in the field always use external storage regardless of their internal storage capacity.

The joke would be on you if you bought a computer that didn't suit YOUR needs. YOUR needs doesn't mean EVERYONES needs.256 GB… what a joke. All of my projects range in the 14-20 GB storage, I would need many external drives just to work on a regular week.
