HMD Global, the powerhouse brand behind Nokia branded smartphones has today announced and launched its first Android tablet, the Nokia T20, along with what HMD Global is saying is the most affordable 5G enabled device in their portfolio, the Nokia G50 5G.
Nokia T20
The Nokia T20 is the first Android-powered tablet from HMD Global which has been designed to cover all areas of life: Work, learn and play. The Nokia T20 tablet has been designed with work-life balance in mind incorporating the versatility and reliability expected from a Nokia device, coupled with a long-lasting battery.
The Nokia T20 comes with a 2K 10.4-inch display (1200×2000) and is powered by a Unisoc T610 A75 @ 1.8 GHz + A55 @ 1.8GHz chipset processor. Packing 4GB RAM with 64GB of onboard storage which can be expanded to 512GB via MicroSD card. The Nokia T20 is powered by Android 11 out of the box and Nokia has — staying consistent — provided a guarantee for 2 years worth of firmware and security updates.
The Nokia T20 comes with a single 8MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP front-facing camera. For those who can’t quite let go yet, there is also a 3.5mm audio jack alongside the USB-C charging port. The Nokia T20 tablet comes with an 8,200mAh battery and can last up to 15 hours of web surfing or 7 hours of video playback or meetings. The Nokia T20 has support for 15W fast charging but only comes with a standard 10W charger in the box.
James Robinson, ANZ Country Manager at HMD Global said:
“The Nokia T20 marks an incredibly important milestone for HMD Global with our very first tablet. Over the past two years in Australia, we’ve experienced an increase in working from home, online learning and the growing use of social media, video calling platforms and streaming services. All of this has contributed to a significant uplift in demand for tablets, with 3.4 million sold in 2020, a 12 per cent increase on the previous year.
The Nokia T20 is a tablet that has been designed specifically to reflect and address the changing needs and desire for versatile technology that Australians have become accustomed to. We believe this device serves the needs of busy families, as well as providing businesses with an affordable yet powerful business tool with Zero Touch deployment. At HMD we’re committed to Nokians keeping their devices for longer and extending our industry leading three year manufacturer’s warranty to the Nokia T20.”
The Nokia T20 will be coming to Australian shores and will retail for approximately $349 via the Nokia website and Amazon from October 7th. There will be both a Wi-Fi only version and a 4G LTE version available, though no pricing difference has been provided.
Nokia G50 5G
HMD has also launched what they are calling, the most affordable 5G enabled smartphone in its portfolio with the Nokia G50 5G. A device that comes with a 6.82-inch HD+ V-notch display that is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 chipset processor, along with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage which can be extended to 512GB via microSD card.
The Nokia G50 5G comes with a triple rear camera set up that includes a 48MP main camera lens + 5MP Ultrawide camera lens and a 2MP depth sensor lens. The front-facing camera comes with a single 8MP camera lens.
The device will come with Android 11 right out of the box and comes with HMD Global usual 3 years guarantee security and major OS/firmware updates. Nokia has stated it will be upgraded to Android 12, though in the press release they did say it would come with Android 12 right out of the box whilst saying it is powered by Android 11.
Sticking to the mould of other similar priced 5G devices, the Nokia G50 5G will come with 18W fast charging capabilities to back up its 5000mAh battery, a 3.5mm audio jack and USB-C charging. It has an acceptable range of connectivity, including NFC capabilities which is now a must have for mobile payment.
James Robinson, ANZ Country Manager at HMD Global has stated that:
“As 5G develops and becomes more accessible to more Australians, HMD Global expands choice of our trusted Nokia 5G range, making 5G more accessible to more Aussies. We at HMD believe that Aussies should be able to keep their devices for longer; as such, the Nokia G50 comes with our hallmark commitments to OS upgrades, security patching, and an Australian first – three year manufacturer’s warranty.”
HMD Global has recently partnered with two industry-leading brands, Spotify and ExpressVPN enabling Nokia G50 owners a quicker way to access their favourite content. Spotify gives Nokia G50 owners access to 70 million tracks and 2.6 million podcasts out of the box. Offering added reassurance against malware, ExpressVPN is also available with a 30-day free trial.
Florian Seiche, CEO at HMD Global has stated that:
“At HMD Global we’re always striving to provide everyone with quality mobile technology, which is why we’re incredibly proud to launch the Nokia G50, a 5G device that it built to last at an incredibly affordable price.”
The Nokia G50 5G will retail for approximately $449 and be available to purchase from the Nokia Australian website, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, Harvey Norman and Amazon from the 7th October.
