FCC document reveals some high-end Duo 2 features

Microsoft is expected to announce the Surface Duo 2 during a dedicated event next week, and while the company has remained tight-lipped on everything related to this new device, people familiar with the matter have suggested the new model is very likely to come with major hardware upgrades.

More specifically, Microsoft doesn’t want to make the same mistake twice, and after rolling out the Surface Duo (the original model) with a previous-generation processor, the company is now expected to make the new device a flagship model in all regards.

An FCC document discovered by Windows Central recently provides us with a closer look at some of the features expected on the Surface Duo 2, and indeed, these seem to suggest Microsoft is aiming for a high-end device this time.

For example, 5G support is very likely to be offered, and this makes perfect sense, especially given we’re currently living in a 5G revolution and companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google are betting big on such connectivity options on their models.

Furthermore, the Duo 2 will support Wi-Fi 6, NFC (most likely for wireless payments), UWB, and Wireless Power Transfer, which means the device is likely to allow charging other devices.

To go on sale soon

After the next-week announcement, the Surface Duo is very likely to go on sale in the coming weeks, possibly in early October.

The biggest question, however, is whether Microsoft plans to make it available in more markets from the very beginning or the company uses an approach similar to the one of the original Surface Duo and initially sell it in the United States exclusively.

The Duo will most likely run Android 11 out of the box, and we should expect the update to Android 12 to be announced at some point in the coming months.
