Facebook is looking for researchers and data scientists to join the Graph Science & Statistics (GRASS) group within the Core Data Science team. GRASS is an interdisciplinary team of quantitative scientists that aims to deliver research and innovation to protect the people using our products, improve strategic decision making and provide meaningful product experiences. The team works closely with various product groups throughout Facebook, bringing expertise in modeling, statistical methodology, model evaluation, algorithms, machine learning, exploratory data analysis, and social network analysis. We help these teams better understand how people use their products, and we solve hard problems that will enable these products to better serve and protect their users.
Research Scientist - Graph Science & Statistics Responsibilities
Work with large amounts of data in service of concrete conclusions and actionable insights
Communicate complicated technical topics and nuanced insights to diverse audiences
Learn new tools and languages quickly as required by the particular project you are working on, with tasks ranging from data processing to production engineering to modeling and machine learning
Work both independently and collaboratively with other scientists, engineers, designers, UX researchers, and product managers to accomplish complex tasks that deliver demonstrable value to Facebook's community of over 1.7 billion users
Think creatively, proactively, and futuristically to identify new opportunities within Facebook's long term roadmap for data-scientific contributions
Minimum Qualifications
MS degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or PhD in computer science, statistics, economics, sociology or related field
Experience in machine learning, deep learning, statistical analysis, or social network analysis
Experience in analysis and visualization using off-the-shelf statistical computing software such as R, Python or Julia
Experience writing code in any of the following programming languages PHP, Python, Java, C++
Experience in manipulating and analyzing data from various sources, including with distributed computing tools like Hive and Presto
