NOTE: All meetups are being held virtually due to COVID-19.
The Rust programming language has recently seen an increase in adoption by many tech giants for "serious" projects. In response to this, more companies are now considering whether they too should make use of Rust. This talk hopes to help you make that decision. We go through the main benefits of Rust and the pain-points it alleviates compared to Java. Then we look at a fictitious service written in both Java and Rust to see what similarities and differences look like side-by-side and to highlight some of the drawbacks of using Rust.
Speaker: Jesus Guzman, Jr.

General Info
We usually study a specific topic. The meetup starts with a presentation and a discussion follows. After the presentation, we talk about Rust news. Finally, the remaining time is used for general questions, helping people out with their Rust projects, and feedback.
This is also a great place to share your experience with Rust or ask questions and get unstuck on your pet project.
Generally, anyone who is interested in Rust and being part of a community of Rustaceans in Vancouver is welcome :)
