Naser Khadem’s Morour

September 10, 2021

Morour from Naser Khadem is an innovative design with modern grab and a classical echo. Mr. Khadem’s astute placement of cuts in the characters gives the letters a modern and engaging visual hook, making the font especially strong for statements or mediums that demand additional staying power, like advertising, poster art, magazines, and branding.

Mr. Khadem notes that Morour is a Persian word meaning review. He states: “This typeface was formed in the course of my knowledge of the Latin script as an Iranian type designer. I have tried to create a cut or depression in the character by examining the counters and intersections of strokes in a character, which reduces the blurring of the letters.”

And indeed, the breaks increase the font’s readability in a novel way. Perhaps the slight pause they evoke allows the letters and words they form to sink more deeply into the subconscious mind. Or perhaps it’s the way these subtle breaks emulate a synaptic arrangement that is perhaps recognizable to us in a way we don’t fully understand, but the practical result is pleasingly familiar with a splash of cutting-edge distinction.
