How do successful CEOs nurture talent within their business?

Recruiting energetic people and empowering them to achieve elevated levels withing the organisation is a number one focus of mine on a daily basis. It is my goal to build my team to become leaders in their own right. This, to me, is the best way I can lead. It enables a business to grow faster, its gives team opportunities to grow and nurture future leaders within the company.

A good leader focuses on the strengths within their team members. 

Every day I ask myself, what can I do to empower my people? An excellent way to ensure your people feel a part of the decision-making process and ultimately the business goals, is to share your vision and values with the team. Do this at every opportunity as it helps teams align with the company vision and perform better. This encourages growth.

The success of a company is achieved through enabling your people’s success. 

This can be done by providing regular and beneficial training. By upskilling your people, you are providing them with more than just new skills, they will feel more empowered and motivated, further engaged and truly believe you value them and their contribution to the business. Training team members helps your people to understand their role better and how it can support the company and those they are working alongside.

Nurturing people within your business is one of the great tools of a good leader.

A leader’s main role is seen higher for their team than they can see for themselves It allows them to perform at whole new level. It shows them that you, as a leader, are willing to check in with them as an individual, encouraging them to improve for long term success.  It assures them that there is someone who is having their best interest in mind.

Providing ownership and leadership.

This provides them with the ability to determine for themselves, what needs to be done with the best interest of the clients and business in mind. It allows for freedom of strategic thinking and the development of fundamental leadership skills that otherwise may have been lying dormant. By cultivating leadership within your team members, they are inspired to think creatively, and inspire others to do the same.

There’s no success in creating a business that relies solely on yourself. 

You won’t ultimately achieve success when you’re only interested in your own way of thinking, or in the ideas only you came up with. You put these talented and intelligent minds in these roles for a reason, now it’s time to hear what they have to say. By doing this, you will find people perform at a higher level, are able to take the lead, which frees you up to further create the big picture; empowering them empowers you to build a business that can run without you one day. And that’s just smart business.

Listen to your teams.

By ensuring your people are valued and heard, you will find unity, comradeship, loyalty and respect. If your people feel they can relate to you they are more likely to want to work with you to overcome any challenges they may be facing, either personally or professionally. Caring about what’s going on in their personal lives is just as important as promoting their professional development. Learn about your people. What’s their home life like? Their families? What are their dreams and goals? Let them know you see them as real humans not just a number on your books.

It’s not just business.

One of the major things we do is create some fun. Whether this team building events; dinner on the river; online trivia nights (thanks lockdown) or Friday lunches, we consistently express gratitude and appreciation alongside recognition. We make it personal. Welcome gifts to new recruits; birthday celebrations; anniversary gifts are all ways you can win the hearts of your team members and show them clearly you appreciate who they are and what they bring to the business.
