据《华尔街日报》报道：美国政府紧急增兵协助撤离滞留阿富汗的外交人员和美国公民，但数万曾为美军工作的阿富汗翻译、间谍等恐沦为弃子。曾为美军担任5年翻译的奥马尔表示，他申请美国签证，却被拒绝，“我拯救了很多美国人的生命，美国却抛弃了我。”
奥马尔如今正与妻儿一同被困在喀布尔。他表示，塔利班虽然表示不会报复曾为美国工作的人，但他们也曾说，翻译就是美军的眼睛和耳朵，对这种人的惩罚与其他人不同。奥马尔2016年就曾申请美国签证，却被告知“未提供忠心且有价值的服务”，因此被拒。他绝望地表示，自己和家人可能被杀。（来源）
