微软已经开始向主流用户发布其Windows Server的下一版本（即Windows Server 2022）。过去一年多以来，Windows Server 2022一直在开发长期服务渠道（LTSC）版本，其中包含多项新功能。

Windows Server 2022提供标准版、数据中心版与数据中心：Azure等版本。在此之前，Windows Server 2022只供批量许可服务中心的客户使用。用户也可以通过Azure、产品评估中心以及Visual Studio站点上获取。

8月18日，微软悄悄更新了Windows Server 2022生命周期文档页面，表示该产品的支持周期将从即日起生效。该产品的主流支持预计将于2026年10月13日结束，扩展支持将于2031年10月14日结束。微软官员们表示，未来该公司将只发布Windows Server的LTSC版本，而不再提供半年渠道版本。这些LTSC服务器版本将拥有十年支持周期，涵盖五个主流版本与五个扩展版本。微软计划每两到三年发布新的Windows Server版本。

今年年初，微软官方还发布了Windows Server 2022中的部分新功能列表。据微软表示，Windows Server 2022用户将能够：

  • 使用安全核心服务器轻松实现针对威胁的高级多层保护。
  • 在传输过程中使用额外的安全层保证与关键业务资产的连接，包括默认支持HTTPS与TLS 1.3。
  • 使用Azure Arc实现Windows Server的本地管理与治理。
  • 使用最新的Windows Admin Center获得更好的虚拟机管理能力。
  • 使用存储迁移服务中支持的新方法，将文件服务器从本地迁移至Azure。
  • 降低镜像大小以改进容器应用程序部署，加快下载速度并简化网络策略实施方法。
  • 使用Windows Admin Center中的新容器化工具更新.NET应用程序。

微软还计划在9月16日举办虚拟Windows Server峰会活动，官方表示届时将首次提供该产品的深度公开展示。
