援引日媒 Mac Otakara 从供应链处获得的消息，即将推出的新款 iPad Air（第 5 代）将会采用和 iPad Pro 11（2021）款相同的外观造型。目前两个系列在外观上已经非常接近，不过新款设计会在背面获得第 2 个摄像头--一个超广角镜头，此外还可能会配备 LiDAR 传感器。
不过外媒 GSMArena 认为配备 LiDAR 传感器的可能性并不大。因为苹果希望区分 iPad Air 和 iPad Pro 产品线，前者采用和 iPhone 13 相同的 A15 芯片，而后者则采用了自研的 M1 芯片。尽管如此，新款 A15 芯片也将支持 5G 网络连接，这是 iPad Air 首次加入 5G 网络。
其他功能包括 4 个扬声器组成的音频系统和 1 个 5G 毫米波芯片。Mac Otakara 预计第 5 代 iPad Air 将采用 A15 芯片，虽然今天的传言没有包括发布日期的细节，但之前的信息表明，将会在 2022 年初推出。
此外也没有提到 OLED 屏幕，其他多个传言表明，苹果正在开发一款配备 OLED 显示屏的 iPad Air 型号。预计 iPad Air 将使用 OLED 技术，而 iPad Pro 系列将坚持使用 mini-LED 技术。
