The Five Most Mysterious Places on Earth That Science Can’t Explain

From a portal that takes you to the land of aliens to a gate to heaven itself.

Mother Earth’s beauty never fails to surprise us. One might come across many bizarre things on this planet. These sometimes even leave the scientists puzzled. Places like the stone hedge, gigantic pyramids, multi-shaded lakes, crooked trees fascinate us profusely to date.

We are left wondering how something so grotesque, yet bewitching, grew on the face of Earth. Here are our top five picks of the most bewildering places on Earth that science fails to explain.

1. The Doubletree of Casorzo

The eerie doubletree sits in Piemonte, Italy, between Grana and Casorzo. It is famously known as Bialbero di Casorzo which has become a tourist attraction spot in Italy.

Bialbero is a mulberry tree. It is called a doubletree because a cherry tree grows on top of the mulberry tree. The sight of the doubletree is nothing short of fascinating. The mulberry tree gives mulberry in its season. It is beautifully crowned by the white flowers of cherry.

The cherry tree pierces through the mulberry tree, standing tall, high up in the sky. The cherry tree keeps on growing, which is even more surprising. The residents also refer to the tree as “Grana Doubletree.”

What Makes the Tree So Special?

The growth of epiphytes (a plant that grows on another plant) is considered normal scientifically. However, epiphytes grow to a specific length that is not too tall. Bialbero fascinates scientists and common men because it has grown past the size of what we call a small tree.

Scientifically, an epiphyte experiences minimal growth and has a short life because it lacks the proper supply of nutrients and growth space. However, the lifespan of the Grana doubletree is beyond ordinary. The existence of the tree dates back to 5000 years, supposedly. The tree outwits scientific answers.

The Heathen’s gate is a famous monument, which was built between 354 AD and 361 AD in Carnuntum, Austria. The monument is considered to be one of the largest archaeological sites in Central Europe.

Historians claim that the Heathen’s gate was built as a result of a victory during the rule of Emperor Constantius II. It was later discarded, in 433 AD, after a wave of political, economic, and geographical stress.

The gate lost its structure in coming years, leaving it with only one standing arch. People started believing that it was a gate to heaven or a tomb. They then named the gate Heathen’s gate, also known as Heidentor and sometimes referred to as Pagan’s gate.

Markus Wachter, the director of Carnuntum Archaeological Park, claimed that the Heathen’s gate had been a site of archaeological interest for over 100 years. The gate was believed to be a tetra pylon in shape. However, today only two of its pillars stand, forming a single arch.

The other three arches have been demolished as a result of natural disasters. The width of Heathen’s gate is 14.5 metres. Amidst the centre of the gate, a plinth has been placed, which is thought to be the spot where the Romans put the statue of a God or the ruling emperor.

The antiquity of the gate makes it a special sighting in Austria, and the lack of historical documentation leads to the increasing curiosity of tourists.

Kenya inhabits one of the world’s most mysterious islands, known as “Envaitenet” in Swahili. The name of the island literally means “Island of no return.” The island is as spooky as it is portrayed to be.

Envaitenet sits near Lake Rudolf in Kenya. It is believed that the island was once populated. However, the island was deserted after several years of recurrent mishaps.

Dominantly, people believe Envaitenet is a portal for extraterrestrials. Supposedly, the aliens use the portal to kidnap humans because people who have gone to the island have never returned. The natives warn tourists to avoid the mystic island lest they never return.

In 1935, Vivian Fuchs, a keen British explorer, initiated an expedition to explore Envaitenet. He did not initially believe in the telltales regarding Envaitenet, despite being warned about the island’s unexplained mystery.

Fuchs arrived in Kenya along with his team, which included Martin Scheverries and Bill Dyson. He sent his team to explore the island of no return in hopes to falsify the myths.

After five days, Fuchs’s team did not return to the station as planned. Worried, Fuchs sent a rescue team to find his colleagues. Unfortunately, the rescue team probed the island but did not find any hints of human existence, let alone Fuchs’s team. The accuracy of the myth was then fortified.

Legendary myths state that the massive impressions are of the gigantic people who inhabited Ain Dara in the 8th century. Darren Ashby, a Syrian analyst, said:

“These are unique in the religious architecture of the region.” (Darren Ashby)

In 2018, the religious site was reduced to rubble after Turkish Air Force planes damaged it during the Afrin offensive. However, the famous foot impressions remain intact in the demolished temple to date.

The majestic pyramid of Giza is the seventh wonder of the world. The monument instills in one, a sense of disbelief; since it is hard to believe that such a thing could have been built by humans.

The pyramid sits on the Giza plateau, near Cairo. It was built in 2600 BC, during the fourth dynasty of King Khufu. The structure of the great pyramid makes it difficult for historians and archaeologists to answer how it could have been created.

Modern-day science partially answers the creation of the great monument. No one is certain of how and why the pyramid of Giza was built. According to Historians, the pyramid was built to serve the purpose of a tomb for King Khufu. The ancient Egyptians also placed regularly-used things for the King’s use inside the pyramid to make the afterlife easy for him.
