While asynchronous work has existed for decades (even centuries) across global organizations, we are entering a unique era of hybrid remote work becoming the norm for even co-located teams. 

This shift among industries will involve less people coming into the office on a regular basis and increased flexibility for employees to work the hours that help better balance their lives. According to Buffer's 2021 State Of Remote Work report 57% of respondents liked the flexibility of schedule and location of remote work,  but 52% of respondents find themselves in more meetings as a result of the shift to remote work.

With these sweeping changes, successful hybrid remote businesses will need new ways to connect and communicate across their asynchronous teams— all while utilizing tools that can make this transition easy without slowing down your productivity. 

That is why we are excited to announce the new Loom video integration for Trello. In just a couple of clicks, teams can easily create and share screencast videos in Trello, as comments in cards or as Link cards, for updates, feedback, and other important information that can be accessed wherever and whenever people are working. 

When Loom videos are shared with teammates in Trello, they can be viewed right from your Trello board where the work is getting done. No need to switch apps or browser tabs. Plus, anyone can engage with the videos by leaving emoji reactions or comments for additional questions and follow up. 

(Note: The Loom integration for Trello is currently in beta and will be rolling out to free and Business Class users over the next few days, and we hope to make it available to Enterprise customers in the future. Currently it is only supported on Chrome, Edge, and Brave browsers. As soon as the Loom SDK supports additional browsers we will be supporting them as well.)

Share More And Meet Less

Reshape how teams can better work together—here are some ideas for how to start using the Loom integration for Trello with your team: 

Say 'so long' to status update meetings: The dreaded status meeting, always popping up on the calendar right in the middle of your most productive hours. This circle of sharing is easily one of the most asynchronous friendly meetings that no longer requires a meeting. 

How? Create a list on your team’s board called “Updates” and have teammates create a Loom video card for their daily or weekly updates. Then, instead of forcing everyone to put everything down to meet, just make sure that everyone has viewed and commented on each video by a certain time.

Share ideas and get feedback in one place: The end result of any project is always better when we share ideas, collect meaningful feedback, and iterate on that feedback. However, when teams collaborate and communicate among so many different tools it can be too easy to lose the constructive criticism that keeps us on our A game. Luckily, there is a better way.

How? When working on something that requires team feedback, like a landing page design or a new product feature, create a Loom video comment showing what you are working on as a Loom video comment on the Trello card where you are tracking this work. Team members can watch the video, reference any attached related assets, and leave comments all on the Trello card so that everything stays organized in one place. 

Create a seamless onboarding experience: Let’s face it, onboarding to a new job or project can be pretty overwhelming. There’s so much to learn and oftentimes documentation can be too dense or out of date. It’s time to create a much more personalized onboarding experience.

How? Start each Trello board off with an onboarding video that clearly explains the setup of lists and process for adding cards with a Loom video card. If your board starts off with a “How to use this board” or “Resources” list, put your onboarding video on that list so that new board members will see it right away and start contributing seamlessly to the project. This also works great for any team resources boards or FAQs in Trello that could be enhanced with a video tutorial.

How To Start Using Loom In Trello

Getting started creating Loom videos in Trello is a cinch and you don’t even need to create a Loom account for your first five videos. Loom also offers extensive free plans and business plans that scale to enterprise.

To create a Loom video card:

1. Click the Loom video icon at the bottom of a list
2. Install and set up the Loom browser extension or desktop app if you haven’t already
3. Select your video and recording settings and press “Start recording”
4. Choose what to share and click “Share”
5. Record until your heart’s content then click the recording icon at the bottom of the screen
6. If everything looks good click “Insert recording” and a new card will be created
7. To view the recording in Trello click the “Preview” button on the Loom video card

To create a Loom video comment:

1. From the card back, click the card’s comment field
2. Click the Loom video icon at the bottom of the comment field
3. Install and set up the Loom browser extension or desktop app if you haven’t already
4. Select your video and recording settings and press “Start recording”
5. Choose what to share and click “Share”
6. Record until your heart’s content then click the recording icon at the bottom of the screen
7. If everything looks good click “Insert recording” and a video comment will be created
8. Press play to view the recording from the card back
