ITWIRETV INTERVIEW: Yubico's A/NZ VP Geoff Schomburgk talks Yubikey security in the Zero Trust era

GUEST INTERVIEW: Yubikeys are the ultimate multi-factor authentication tool, used by consumers, businesses, governments and any organisation to keep accounts and networks secure in the age of global Cyber Cold War, and we spoke to Yubico's Geoff Schomburgk on iTWireTV.

With USB-A, USB-C, Lightning and NFC keys, along with FIPS 140-2 validated keys that allow government agencies and regulated industries to meet the highest authenticator assurance level 3 (AAL3) requirements from the new NIST SP800-63B guidance, Yubico has MFA covered.

Indeed, the company proudly boasts of companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, eBay, GitHub, Citrix, Salesforce, Dropbox, Facebook, Twitter and many others as customers, so clearly, Yubico has the Yubikey to authentication security success.

So, given the alarmingly escalating cyber security situation, which has only been heightened by the outrageous effrontery of scammers, hackers and cyber criminals taking advantage of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to cause even more cyber chaos, it was a good time to talk to Yubico's VP in the A/NZ region, Geoff Schomburgk, to learn more, and discuss Zero Trust and the new security reality.

I started by introducing Geoff, welcoming him to iTWireTV, and asking him to tell us about Yubico in 2021.

We then spoke about Zero Trust, what the goal of Zero Trust is, why companies should care about it, and what is stopping companies from adopting it.

We spoke about Yubikeys being the first line of defence for security professionals that want to adopt the Zero Trust framework and how purpose-built hardware security keys are much safer than SMS, email or app authentication, and more general discussion about cyber security in the Zero Trust cyber Cold War era.

I asked Geoff about his first computer, his own history in the world of tech, how he thinks Yubico and the industry will evolve over the next few years, great advice he has received in life, and his final message to iTWire viewers and readers, and to Yubico's current and future customers and partners.
