25 Didi-owned apps are required to be removed

Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) ordered 25 Didi-owned apps including Didi Enterprise App to be removed from mobile app stores.

Details: The top Internet regulator claims that these 25 apps illegally collect and use personal data, which is a serious violation of the Cybersecurity Law of the People's Republic of China.

Operators should strictly abide by legal requirements and rectify existing problems to ensure the security of users' personal data, said the regulator.

Citing the same concern, Last Sunday night, CAC ordered Didi, the ride-hailing app for individual users, to be removed from all mobile app stores operating in China and asked the company to make rectifications.

Didi Enterprise App provides travel services and management solutions for enterprises. After a company creates an enterprise account, its employees can use the app to request a business ride. Trip fares will then be paid directly from the enterprise account.

Apps for Didi drivers, Didi bus and financial services are also required to be removed.

Context: In recent months, Beijing has stepped up efforts to rein in the country's technology giants, citing concerns over monopolistic behavior, data securities and cybersecurity loopholes.

On Wednesday, Didi was fined by Chinese anti-monopoly regulators for failing to report earlier merger and acquisition deals for approval.

The ride-hailing giant, which went on public on July 1, has seen its shares plunge as China launched investigations on national security grounds and removed its App from app stores.
