Tencent Holdings partners with The National Astronmical Observatory to search for new stars

Pony Ma, the founder and CEO of Tencent Holdings, said his company and the National Astronomical Observatory will collaborate on a project of searching new star, utilizing Tencent Youtu lab’s computer vison technologies to discover the universe and find traces about Pulsar.

On Thursday, Pony Ma delivered his message to the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai via a 50 seconds audio record. The country’s second richest person said AI has been used in many fields such as health care, city governance and non-contact medical treatment, bring convenience to people’s daily lives.

“But we only discover a little thing in AI and many more secrets waiting to be discovered,” Ma said.

In March, Pony Ma made his last public appearance that he attended the National People’s Congress, the country’s annual parliamentary gathering, as a delegate member.

At the meeting, Ma met with Beijing’s antitrust authority to discuss compliance issues.

Answer reporters’ questions following the earnings announcement. Ma said the company was cooperating with regulators on compliance, including reviewing some of Tencent past investment.

Context:

On Wednesday. The State Administration for Market Regulation fined Tencent, Alibaba, Didi for failures to disclose their past merger and acquisition deals.

The punishment signals broader antitrust crackdown on Chinese tech giants by the country’s officials, which started last year with Alibaba business empire.

According to the country’s anti-monopoly regulators, of the total 22 cases, 6 were related to Alibaba, 5 were related to Tencent, and 8 were related to Didi and its subsidiaries.
