3 Powerful Tips to Overcome Your Fears and Achieve What You Want

Although the world has experienced some uncertain times and challenges during COVID, we can still thrive despite our surroundings. At the best of times, things happen outside of us that we have no control over. However, at any given moment, we can always control ourselves. When we have goals and things we want to achieve, they can seem so big because we don’t yet have them at this very moment. It is still something we want to attain. When we start to question how it is supposed to happen, our goals can seem so much bigger than they are and even impossible to attain. The path can seem difficult and what we want seems so far away from where we are now.

I don’t have the skills. What if I fail? What if people judge me? I’m not good enough. What makes me think I can get that? It’s who you know not what you know. If you are resonating with this, I encourage you to keep reading and offer you a different perspective to allow you to overcome your fears and achieve whatever it is you want.

Envision That it is Already Yours

Imagine already having your goal. Imagine already achieving whatever it is you want. How are you feeling? What are you doing? What thoughts are running through your mind? I encourage you to spend a moment imagining that you have whatever it is you want. Does it feel good? Allow that feeling to run through your veins.

Now that you have it clear on how you would think, feel, and act if you had your goal, think about what you are currently thinking, feeling and doing now. Does it align?

If how you are now in the present moment does not align to how you would be if you have achieved your goal, think about what you can do now to align to the person that has already achieved it. What do you need to change? What habits can you create? What thoughts do you need to let go of?

 Mistakes are Lessons

When we have big goals, we can be afraid of failure. We don’t want to mess up and we don’t want to get things wrong. However, as any successful person will tell you, there are never any mistakes, only lessons. When we take a wrong turn and make a not so wise decision, we learn. We find out what doesn’t work and we are then forced to find solutions.

When we fall, we only have two options, accept it and stay in our self-pity or get back up and find the strength we didn’t know we had.  Mistakes and failure build our character. It teaches us resiliency and highlights just how determined and accomplished we can be. If we push past the thought of believing that making a mistake means that we have failed and instead switch our thinking to being thankful for them. We will start to see why they had to happen and how they were really put on our path to help us.

One Step at a Time

It is important to know what our goals are, as once we get clear on our goals, it can give us direction. However, sometimes when we think about the end result, we can tend to think of all the hard work and steps needed in the in between phase. When we do this, our goal becomes daunting; we can become overwhelmed, and fear starts to creep in. All of a sudden everything seems so hard, and we just want to give up. It’s too much effort, right?

Next time you start to feel anxious about your to do list, instead of worrying about how it is supposed to happen or stressing about all of the things you need to do to get there, take a moment and pause. Ask yourself, “What can I do today that will help me move toward my goal?” If we focus on the present moment and just taking that first step, it can take the anxious thoughts away of worrying about the future.

Even if you start small and just do one thing every day toward your goal, it can make a massive difference. Take it one step at a time and be consistent because every step you take forward counts. Once you start to form this habit, the steps get even more frequent and a lot easier to take. If you take enough steps, it is inevitable that you will reach your goal.
